In addition, there will be a evening celebration September 6th to show the boats to the public and will include Taiwanese cultural music, a dragon boat parade on the water, and the “awakening of the dragon” ceremony.
The Rhode Island Chinese Dragon Boat Races & Taiwan Day Festival is a signature public event focused on celebrating Rhode Island’s Asian community and its cultural diversity and contributions to Rhode Island’s proud heritage.
The dragon boats were donated as part of the trade mission that took place in April, with state and local officials and business leaders visiting Taiwan to continue social, economic and cultural connections between Taiwan and to Rhode Island and the Blackstone River Valley.
This event is that Rhode Island is continuing to expand its economic development and cultural relationships with Taiwan through the donation of the colorful racing boats.
Festival Pier, located on the shores of the Pawtucket River, has excellent views of the waterway heading south toward Providence, providing a visual ambiance showcasing the festival and the dragon boats that will debut.
