Approaching Clients with Cultural Humility-WEBINAR
April 29 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
About this event
You may be familiar with the concept of cultural competence, but do you know and practice cultural humility? Cultural humility combines ongoing self-reflection with a willingness to learn from others with different backgrounds.
This webinar will focus on general perspectives of cultural humility in health and social services, and ways to effectively engage with clients in a respectful and culturally sensitive manner. We will also explore a couple of communication frameworks that can be used to help overcome communication and cultural barriers to successfully accomplish client engagement and education.
In this webinar, participants will be provided with:
- A brief overview of cultural humility
- The different models to address cultural differences
- Tools to practice self-awareness when serving people of different cultural and linguistic backgrounds
We’ll also talk about the social determinants of health affecting older adults and the general population, as well as institutional accountability in providing culturally sensitive services.
