Community libraries are a great resource for information. In addition to book clubs and museum passes many offer a variety of classes such as computer and digital technology classes, social programs and musical events. Some libraries even offer physical fitness opportunities.
The RI Office of Library & Information Services (RIOLIS) administers the Talking Books Library. This program which runs through the National Library Service, Library of Congress, provides audio/digital books to visually impaired, blind and physically handicapped individuals who cannot read standard print materials. This program provides books and equipment delivered postage free to the patron’s place of residence.
If the patron is using the BARD (Braille and Audio Reading) program they will get materials via download to their home computer or device. By law, veterans receive preference for these library services.
Eligibility criteria and applications are on the RIOLIS website.
